WATER SEPERATION

TEST HOOD

This project was for the purpose of allowing engineers at Freightliner to observe the path of road spray water through the air intake system of the truck hood.  We created tooling for a 3/4 hood skin and inner plenum.  Fiber reinforced plastic parts were then fabricated from CNC machined foam tools.  Surfaces of both parts were then finished to production like quality to ensure real world testing results.  The parts were then bonded together per OE specifications using a 3M urethane structural adhesive.  Polycarbonate windows were cut and installed in the A surface of the hood skin to allow engineers to watch the flow of the spray.
